A good week

On Tuesday Megan was bumped up from the 1mg/ml solution to the 5mg/ml solution. This week she is getting 5ml of the 5mg/ml egg liquid. Only two more week and she moves to the egg powder!!! Megan has remained reaction free. Once she got past the first two weeks of her body wondering "what in the heck we were doing" she has been fine.

Kool-aid egg is becoming not so COOL anymore

Megan is getting really tired of drinking Kool-aid egg. We normally don't do Kool-aid in our house. We are more of a 100% juice kind of family. It is a good thing that after this week she only has 3 more weeks of Kool-aid egg then we can move onto mixing it with a solid substance.

This is one of the reasons that I felt so passionate about sharing Megan's story

This is a quote from a mother in response to my blog.

"I just happened upon this post & read your blog of the experience. I'm so happy for you guys! And I'm jealous that you have a doctor who's willing to put newer research into practice. Thank you for contributing to the body of knowledge so that eventually it can trickle down to areas like ours where doctors are so behind the times. My son will be 5 this winter. He's never had an IOFC for egg, and we hope he will soon. If he fails it (he's RAST & SPT positive but has never ingested it except recently was OK with baked-in-egg), I would love to be able to do oral immunotherapy with him. Go Megan!!"

Dose up day

Today Megan dosed up from 15ml to 20 ml of the 1ml/mg solution. For those of you interested in exactly how much egg that is, it is 16.7mg of 1mg/ml solution or 0.39% of an egg. One egg is equivalent to 4,350mg. Next week she will transition to the 5ml/mg solution.

Desensitization and school

On this issue we are not going to have much of a problem. Dr. Wasserman believes that due to Megan's reactions in the past she is better off staying home this year to homeschool. Having Megan at home will relieve any issues with possible reactions that could occur in school not to mention major mommy ANXIETY. I am hoping that by next year school will not be an issue nor a worry. Our goal is to finish egg and go right into peanut. If all goes well she will have graduated from both egg and peanut by the time she is to start 1st grade!!! From chatting with other moms that have kids in school desensitization becomes somewhat of a juggling act with regards to morning dosing, the no activity for 2 hour rule, and weekly appointments. It can be done though and many do it and do it well.

Boring...

Not much to report. Megan continues to do great with her egg dosing. Tomorrow she will go for her dose increase.

We are having a egg~cellent week!!!

No drama to share, no reactions to report about, no set backs to be discouraged by, only good. Besides being a bit drippy when taking her twice a day dose due to the larger volume and a big syringe, all is egg~cellent!!! I am looking forward to moving onto the egg powder form in the weeks to come instead of the Kool-aid egg.

Look, look, look....

Today instead of getting a whimpy 12ml syringe we got a 20ml syringe. Silly to most but to my mama brain it is grounds for a happy dance. It is amazing how far we have come in such a short amount of time.

Today is dose up day

Today Megan had her weekly appointment for a dose increase. Megan has had a no reaction week again!!! Today Megan went from 10ml of the 1mg/ml to 15ml of the 1mg/ml. Today daddy showed up during our one hour wait. Megan was excited that he was there to help pass the time. If all goes well next week Megan will move to 20mg of the lmg/ml solution. After that point she will move to the 5mg/ml solution!!!

Oh how emotions change

When Megan first began her egg desensitization I was full of fear, anxiety, and even a sense of questioning myself in this desision. I often asked myself, "Am I seriously giving my child egg, a food, that could potentially kill her". Now a month into the process dosing her with her egg has become no different in my mind than giving her the daily medications that she needs. There is no longer the negative feelings attached to the dosing. On the other hand, I am excited as we get one step closer to gaining egg as a safe food. Megan has no anxiety or fear about taking her egg dose. I am so very grateful and thankful to Dr. Wasserman for this opportunity to drastically change Megan's life for the better.

Purple egg week

This week Megan has her egg powder mixed with grape Kool-aid. No Megan, egg does not taste like grape Kool-aid. We are now 10mg/ml and next week she will jump to 15mg/ml. Desensitization = HOPE

Egg~citing

Megan is now one month into her desensitization. Patiently waiting for her weekly exam for her dose increase.

EXCITING NEWS!!!!

Today Megan had her dose increase. I have been wondering and curious if it would be possible to be able to have eggs in the house and cook them before the full desensitization process was over. Megan is both contact and airborne reactive to eggs. Well, drumroll........the answer is YES!!!!!!! I was shocked and very excited when I was told that this should be possible in about a MONTH. She won't be able to eat them of course but by that time she should be at a dose with the egg that she should not be contact and airborne reactive anymore. Lets just say that everyone in the house is doing the happy dance!!! Never did I think over 4 years ago when Megan was first diagnosed that we would be where we are today. I am so incredibly thankful for breakthroughs in medicine especially when it potentially can change one's life in such a personal way. By the way, Megan did great today with her dose increase. She went from 6ml's to 10ml's!!

A reaction free week!!!

Megan is doing great. I am so thrilled and excited with how well she is doing. Though we are a long way off from the end of this process I am beginning to see a very faint light at the end of the tunnel and it is so EXCITING!!! We are all beginning to talk about how wonderful it will be to have eggs back in the house, at least those that remember having them. It has been over 4 years since our fridge has housed an egg. Quiche, omelets, scrambled eggs, over easy egg, boiled eggs, baking with eggs, dumplings, potato salad, custard, homemade pudding, and decorating Easter eggs.
